Introducing Agnes Questionmark(@agnesquestionmark), who will be using 99 Canal’s STUDIO 3 to further her research into medical and scientific practices, and to conceptualise an installation in collaboration with 99 Canal in New York City for spring 2025.
Agnes Questionmark is an interdisciplinary artist working across performance, sculpture, video, and installation. She recently completed a residency at The Odin, a bioengineering lab in Austin, Texas, with biohacker and artist Zayner. Their collaboration began with the creation of QuestionGen (0.0022 ml), part of her larger installation Cyber-Teratology Operation, currently on view at the 60th Venice Biennale in the Garden of the Virgins. QuestionGen (0.0022 ml) is an anti-medicine containing 0.002288998764 ml of the artist’s DNA, encapsulated and paired with a misinformative leaflet. This work aims to reclaim and repurpose medical devices, expanding the possibilities of the human body through imaginative freedom and exploring physical and mental alternatives.
Questionmark’s practice explores the boundaries of self-identity through genetic experiments, surgical operations, and artificial reproductive processes, challenging normative concepts of identity. By placing her body and her audiences in spaces where conventional human norms are disrupted, she critiques the biopolitical implications of transgender and trans-species bodies in a human-dominated world.

The Studio Program is a one to three-month opportunity for emerging and mid-career artists based both within and outside New York City.
Collaborating with artists, galleries, and institutions, our selection process draws on the insights of the local creative community to ensure a continuously diverse and vibrant studio cohort.
The program initially launched in 2022 as a response to the lack of affordable spaces in Manhattan and provides access to an intimate and context-specific environment to work in.
