studio program_Mimosa Echard
October - December 2025
Introducing Mimosa Echard (@mimosaechard), who will be working in 99 Canal’s STUDIO 1 to create her first monographic book, forthcoming with Mousse. Composed of photos that the artist has taken of her own work, the book will present a conceptual ‘behind the scenes’ account of the artist’s practice, playing with the ways in which authenticity, vulnerability and authority are constructed within documentation.
The book will encompass all of the artist’s significant projects from recent years, alongside collected ephemera and texts that span poetry and critical analysis. The book will also feature an interview between Echard and Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster.
Echard’s time at 99 CANAL has been spent working on the final selection and sequence of the images in her book, working closely with graphic designer Julie Peeters. She has also started research on a new body of work, centered around documenting the entropic rhythms of New York.
Echard’s practice draws on biological research, histories of experimental cinema and her own life to create works that play with the relationship between sexuality, synthesis, and perception.
Working across various media—from sculpture to installation to video games—her work is driven by ongoing and contradictory processes of absorption, accumulation and circulation, observed in phenomena as diverse as popular culture, metabolic systems or electromagnetic spectra.
Attentive to the invisible or latent potential of the materials she uses, her assemblages and installations displace the capacity of language to know its object, allowing new and ‘unnatural’ associations to proliferate.

Studio Program | 99 Canal
The Studio Program is a one to three-month opportunity for emerging and mid-career artists based both within and outside New York City.
Collaborating with artists, galleries, and institutions, our selection process draws on the insights of the local creative community to ensure a continuously diverse and vibrant studio cohort.
The program initially launched in 2022 as a response to the lack of affordable spaces in Manhattan and provides access to an intimate and context-specific environment to work in.
